The hurricane season obliges, meteorological vigilance is currently on the rise in the Guadeloupe archipelago. On Tuesday 13 September a new yellow watch was activated for heavy rains and thunderstorms, in Guadeloupe and Saint-Martin, for the immersion of the waves.

More rains expected in the next few hours on the Guadeloupe archipelago. The department was placed under yellow surveillance this Tuesday, September 13, due to heavy rains and thunderstorms.

The aftermath of former Hurricane Earl is still being felt on our shores this Tuesday. They will also be visible tomorrow. A fairly strong long north wave was observed.
At the same time, on Tuesday a humid and unstable air mass crosses the archipelago, conducive to the development of strong showers and localized thunderstorms.

Coastal areas are also yellow for wave immersion: North Basse-Terre, Grand Cul-de-Sac, North and East Grande-Terre.
The sea will become rough on the coast due to the long swell from the north. Beautiful rollers crash on the Deshaies coasts in Anse-Bertrand up to the Pointe des Châteaux with waves from 2m to 2m50, with periods from 14 to 16 seconds.
Unusual waves and some localized flooding can be observed in the lower areas of the coast.
The other coastal areas will suffer little or no effect from this storm.

In particular at noon and on Tuesday afternoon strong showers and thunderstorms develop
between the Grands Fonds and the North Basse-Terre on a Gosier / Pointe-Noire axis passing through the
pointoise, as well as on the Saintes.
Significant accumulations of rain are possible, of the order of 20-30 mm in 1 hour, and from 30 to 60
mm in 3 hours.

The sea will also be rough on the coasts of Saint-Martin. Significant rolls are expected on the coasts with waves of about 2 m, with periods from 14 to 16 seconds.
Unusual waves and some localized submersion on the lower areas of the coast
can be observed, as well as in the port of Gustavia.
According to data from the Saint-Martin wave recorder at 5 am this morning, significant average minimums of 1 m20 were observed, with a period of 9 seconds, in a north-northeast direction.

In case of yellow vigilance due to heavy rains and thunderstormsinquire about the weather situation and pay particular attention:
– if you have to play risky outdoor sports,
– if your outdoor activities take place in an exposed area, on the ground, especially in the mountains,
near streams, as well as at sea,
– if you have to travel in areas prone to flooding (crossing fords or low passages
collected),
– in the event of a thunderstorm: avoid using telephones and household appliances. Don’t take cover
in a wooded area, very close to pylons or poles.

In case of yellow vigilance wave immersioninquire about the weather situation and pay particular attention:
– if you have to play risky sports by the sea,
– if your outdoor activities are located in an exposed area, close to the beaches, but also and
especially at sea of ​​course.
