JUSTICE – Currently on trial in England on eight rape charges, former French international Benjamin Mendy has been found not guilty of one of these eight charges, due to lack of sufficient evidence from the prosecution, Judge Stephen announced Tuesday, Sept. 13. Everett.

As for his co-defendant in this first case, Louis Saha Matturie, he too was found not guilty of two rapes and sexual assault against the same woman for facts dating back to July and August 2021.

Returning from the court lunch break, prosecutor Timothy Cray announced to the court that he would forgo a conviction for the facts concerning victim number seven, who had been questioned in the morning. Judge Stephen Everett then ordered the jury to issue a not guilty verdict for the relevant counts.

Before the intermission, the defense attorneys had seriously questioned the qualification of the rape during the interrogation of the victim in the morning. According to the British press, the debates revolved in particular around a video of the antics between the accuser and Louis Saha Matturie, of which she denied having known the existence, but on which, however, we would see her look several times in the direction of the phone she was registered with, held by Saha Matturie.

She had also been questioned about the messages, especially while on vacation, that she had sent to Saha Matturie after the rapes she accused him of.

Winner of the 2018 World Cup with France, where he was a substitute, Benjamin Mendy spent more than four months, from August 2021 to January 2022, in pre-trial detention. Released in early January, he was placed under judicial control pending trial.

Trained in Le Havre, revealed himself in Marseille and spent a season with Monaco, Benjamin Mendy became the most expensive defender in history in 2017 when the Citizens paid 52 million pounds (around 61.4 million euros at the current price) for secure his services.
