Dortmund came very close to the feat. While it was believed that Manchester City would downplay the German club, heavily corrected by RB Leipzig in the league last weekend, Pep Guardiola’s men have had all the trouble in the world getting rid of the yellow wall. They also chased the score before turning the tide in the last ten minutes, ten minutes too long for Borussia. As a symbol, it was Erling Haaland, with an unlikely gesture, who gave his team the victory with forceps, later crucifying his old team (2-1). It allows Manchester City to take possession, alone, of the header of group G.
City in motion, Haaland still on fire

More often than not, the clash between Manchester City and Dortmund did not keep all its promises. The Germans had come to the Etihad Stadium to (well) defend, when the Citizens had run out of ideas, and probably some pace after the postponement to the Premier League, to conclude a long, gloomy match. Also worth seeing is the dejected face of Pep Guardiola, who hasn’t seen much of his team until awakening, is really decisive. Erling Haaland, in particular, was initially well gagged by Mats Hummels and Niklas Süle, and his teammates struggled to find the frame. Faced with these shortcomings, Dortmund began to believe in them more and more.

Haaland in Zlatan mode
The German club did well to give a little push to return from the locker room, against the still apathetic Citizens. There was a first alert signed by Marco Reus, poorly paid on strike (52nd). The German recovered with a long header from Jude Bellingham, from a corner badly managed by the Manchester defense (0-1, 56th). This opening was not even against the race, in the sense that the Germans played opportunistically until they were rewarded. To react quickly, Guardiola made three changes simultaneously, leaving Haaland on the pitch despite his lackluster performance. The Spanish coach took it well.
Because Haaland, even in a match without, manages to pull off, between two defenders, an unlikely acrobatic recovery, close to kung-fu and that a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic would not deny, to improve a nice cross from the outside of Joao’s foot Cancelo (2-1, 84 °). The Norwegian, who logically did not celebrate his sublime goal, is already at 26 in the Champions League, his new garden.
A few minutes earlier, Manchester City had returned to Dortmund thanks to a cannon shot from nowhere by John Stones (1-1, 80th). So it took two feats for the Citizens to secure a second win on the European stage this season, which speaks volumes about the potential of this ever-scary and ever-favorite team. Borussia, who did what they could with their waiting tactics, paid the bill.
