Charles III is the new king of England. On Saturday 10 September 2022, two days after the death of his mother, Elizabeth II, he was officially proclaimed king. Only the photos of him, dated the day before his proclamation, when he met the British Prime Minister, Liz Truss, at Buckingham Palace in London, cast doubt on his health. On the different shots, we can see the hands of new king of england that look very swollen. On social networks, many Internet users have wondered. “Has anyone noticed the hand of Charles III like me? It looks terribly swollen!“,” The hand of Charles III, but what color is it?“,”I thought that Charles III’s hand was the result of a trick“,”The hand of Charles III is of a terrible color and seems ready to explode“, We can read in particular on social networks.

In an effort to shed some light on these photos, our colleagues from Star of the day Dr. Gareth Nye, senior lecturer at the University of Chester, was interviewed. He shared his medical experience with him regarding the hands of Charles III. He so affirmed itlots of love“could lead to finger swelling, but some were more likely than others. In his opinion, the king would be edemaie water retention.

Would Charles III have edema?

Edema is a condition in which the body begins to retain fluid in the limbs, normally the legs and ankles, but also in the fingers, causing them to swell. Edema is a common condition that mainly affects people over the age of 65 because the ability to control fluids is limited“, he explained. He then gave a trick to know if it was edema: just press on the swollen area for about 15 seconds to cause a depression in this area.

Only, he also proposed another possible one: arthritis. “It is another common disease in people over 60. It often affects three main areas of the hand: the thumb joint or the finger joints. They usually become stiff, painful, and swollen, and although medications can relieve the pain, the swelling may remain“, he added. Despite everything, faced with the concern raised by these images, the speaker was rather reassuring.”There are certainly no immediate health problems to be concluded from swollen fingers and it is most likely a sign of his age.“, he concluded. What undoubtedly reassures fans of the monarchy who are in full mourning for Queen Elizabeth II.
