The Ford E-Transit Custom on the look side: Mach-E-fication

New look for a new life. A true best-seller in the blue oval, the Ford E-Transit Custom gets a makeover this year. Recall that Ford has been the number 1 vehicle in the fleet in Europe for 7 years. The utility first plays the design card and does it well. It thus adopts a front closer to the Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV than that of the Transit. The look is sharper, livelier and overall more aerodynamic. What makes it more attractive, further and further away from the unsexy image of a classic utility. The luminous signatures evolve with refinement, as does the grille and the more aerodynamic Ford logo on the front. The set is well executed to our taste, the Ford E-Transit Custom will undoubtedly continue to seduce companies.

Ford announces that it has worked directly with users of the small van to maximize its convenience. The brand takes into account the opinion of small and medium-sized enterprises, starting with versatility and daily accessibility. The main new features of the Ford E-Transit Custom:

Performance and autonomy: intelligent management

The Ford E-Transit Custom offers two engines: 100 kW (136 hp) or 160 kW (217 hp). The engine is directly fixed to the rear floor and develops 415 Nm of torque in the propulsion. The van is powered by a 400 V, 74 kWh battery pack. This uses the same 82 Ah cells as the Ford F-150 Lightning. Enough to display 12% higher energy density than the Ford E-Transit. All this promises 380 km of range, four times the average mileage (about 90 km / day) of Ford Pro customers. Ford Pro Charging makes energy management easier for businesses, especially those that don’t necessarily have fleet managers. The software simplifies the planning and payment of top-ups at home, in the depot or at the station. Smart management, of course, allows you to schedule charging, for example, during off-peak hours.

The battery requires 7 to 8 hours of charging at 11 kW (AC). With the 125 kW quick charge, it takes just 41 minutes to go from 15 to 80% energy. Still in 125 kW, the tests indicate a recovery of 38 km of autonomy in just 5 minutes. On the driver’s side, the Ford E-Transit Custom retains advantages such as independent rear suspension, essential in urban areas. Electric operation reinforces peace of mind behind the wheel with the arrival of the One Pedal mode. The saving on the brakes and the recovery of some energy on the road are always appreciable. As with the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the complete stop of the van will be possible without touching the brake pedal. Let’s get into the utility, shown here as a right-hand drive model prototype. All controls are therefore not functional and the instrumentation is taken from the thermal model. Fortunately, the other news are there.

An anti-idle mobile office

“Time of activity”. These are the phases during which a vehicle is in motion, in use for its movements and deliveries. The “dead time”, you will have understood, is therefore everything else. A stationary user, broken down, charging or in the garage, is paused and therefore unproductive. Reducing this downtime is critical for businesses and Ford E-Transit Custom takes care of this as much as possible. This is thanks to the D-Ford laboratory, which relies on data analysis to anticipate even the slightest of these “downtimes”. Upcoming maintenance, a loss of tire pressure, everything is scanned in real time to alert the driver and fleet manager accordingly. In the future, the diagnosis of an intervention vehicle may also indicate, for example, the status of the light bar. The anti-inactivity also provides for the management of the recharge.

Beyond the connectivity arsenal of the Ford E-Transit Custom, the van does not forget on-board comfort. The van is in fact a real headquarters for its drivers. Ford transforms the interior into a particularly attractive “Mobile Office”. Starting with the tilting steering wheel, whose crown can assume two additional positions. Tilted (practical for a computer or notepad) or flat with an additional tray. A very intelligent system, equipped with USB ports conveniently scattered around the cockpit. The slightly forward position of the front axle, combined with the flat floor, facilitates boarding for the three front occupants. Adaptive LED lighting, ceiling light, additional space … Nothing is left to chance. The E-Transit Custom therefore allows you to work or have lunch on the go more comfortably than ever.

Automated functions for Ford E-Transit Custom

The high-tech suite is completed with standard 5G connectivity and a 14-inch SYNC 4 multimedia screen. Finally, special mention to the Delivery Assist. This function automates certain actions of the Ford E-Transit Custom during deliveries. Delivery drivers can make up to 200 stops and deliver 500 packages per day. Stops that require an average of 20 seconds dedicated to a small routine: activation of the hazard lights, raise the windows, exit and lock the vehicle. The Delivery Assist can be programmed according to your needs to perform one or more actions automatically. These then return to the initial state by resuming their place in the van. Practical and smart. The E-Transit Custom will go into production next year and will be dedicated to the European market. Propre pro car readers, what do you think?
