Game news Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: why the remake will have to make different choices from the original?
The second segment of the great Final Fantasy VII remake project has given us an appointment for the winter of 2023. If the wait may seem infinitely long, at least it has the merit of giving us the time to imagine what the title could detach from its template.
Despite all the goodwill in the world, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will not be able to exactly follow in the footsteps of the original title, at least as regards this element which nevertheless made all the salt of the initial title. The question is that this second part of the adventure should expand the group of main characters to new members, and not just any ones: Vincent Valentine and Yuffie Kisaragi. But can we integrate them into the story of Final Fantasy VII in the same way as 25 years ago?
Other optional characters in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?
Highly highlighted through Final Fantasy VII Remake’s “Episode INTERmission” supplement, the most charismatic rogue in the RPG world reminds us that things have changed a lot since the release of Final Fantasy VII on PlayStation. Vincent Valentine and Yuffie Kisaragi are now officially part of the franchise’s canon when they were originally just optional characters that were narrowly kept in the initial 1997 title. can we imagine that the main plot of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth could make us miss an iconic protagonist like Vincent Valentine? Impossible, according to fans.
Hailed by gamers to the point of inspiring his entirely dedicated spin-off, Dirge of Cerberus, Vincent Valentine still gravitated simply as a secondary character in the original PlayStation episode. “Even worse”, like Yuffie, his quality as an optional character made him a rookie that could be missed during the adventure, which we imagine rather badly at the momentgiven its popularity among players.
This is why some fans consider it Final Fantasy VII Rebirth simply won’t be able to stay true to its role model by relegating Vincent and Yuffie to the bench of optional recruits, if only to maintain a true narrative coherence with the canon of the series. A choice that could however divide the purists when you know the originality with which the recruitment of these weighty allies was staged. So, in your opinion, what decision will Square Enix make to properly integrate these optional characters that have become canonical into the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth storyline? We still have a lot of time to discuss it!
