The Tokyo Game Show 2022 got off to a great start this Thursday, September 15, 2022, and Capcom has set up an appointment with citizens from all over the world to showcase some of the games that are passing under their auspices. Obviously it is impossible not to mention Street Fighter 6 which continues to arouse real enthusiasm among players and the press who have already been able to try their hand several times (we know something about it). The game will also be playable at the Capcom booth at the Tokyo show, but for the others we were entitled to the appearance of emblematic characters from the series. Honda, Blanka, Dhalsim and Ken are in fact the 4 fighters presented today, together with Takayuki Nakayama, the game director. After a gripping trailer where we learned to distinguish between “Fighting Ground”, “World Tour” and “Battle Hub” modes, we also got a glimpse of our 4 guests, looks and movements included. We have learned that Blanka now works as a tour guide in the Amazon, which explains her new dress and his bandana. But Blanka’s big news is that he now uses a stuffed toy that he can throw and electrify away. Dhalsim shows off his large white beard and while he is still slow in his movements, he has incredible reach and can now create new fireballs that can cause serious damage. The Honda is pretty much true to where it was before, although it is more upright and looks faster on its travels. As for Ken, he has swapped his red kimono for a more urban outfit, but he keeps his flames that he can ignite at any time.
In addition to these formal introductions, we also got a look at the “World Tour” mode, with the ability to create your own fighter who will travel through a world full of opponents. Sometimes the game will then switch to fighting game mode, in the style of Final Fight, sometimes we will go back to a more classic 1v1 system. There will also be mini-games such as the return of vehicles to destroy in record time and tons of activities and purchases to do so that we never get bored in this new open world. There remains the “Extreme Battle” mode that will add danger and obstacles to the fights, with for example a bull falling out of nowhere, Mets of the Mega Man series that will interrupt the game, electric pestles that reduce the combat zone or even this rolling grenade that we try to pass. In short, great promises that will come to life in 2023 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, PS4 and Xbox One.
