In the heart of the district of pyramidsin the small media librarynestles a colorful place that serves as a small paradise for players of all kinds: the playroom from The rock on you.

“A place of cultural mediation around games”, explains Thomas Billaud, head of the toy library.

Born in the 1980s, the small neighborhood association of residents who used to lend games took on another dimension by joining the network of media libraries, of the Municipality and then of the Agglomeration.

4000 games and toys to borrow

Today, three toy librarians work there and 4,000 toys, board games and video games it can be borrowed by all media library card holders.

Of this stock, half is permanently with subscribers.

You can borrow a maximum of two games per card for three weeks, plus two video games.

20,000 games are borrowed per year. An important figure that has been growing for 10 years.

In a decade, the number of loans has doubled. Throughout France, interest in games is exploding. We cannot escape this phenomenon.

“The game is just for fun”

For good reason, the family audience it is mostly in the playroom in the Pyramides district, and 80% of the board games and 40% of the toys are borrowed there.

“We are also seeing the emergence, more and more, of an audience of professionals: educators, nurses from the psychiatric hospital, teachers. Play is increasingly used in the care process and in education ”, analyze Clémence Beurois and Julien Sauzeau, the toy librarians.

However, the manager of the playroom proclaims it loud and clear: “The game is useless! It’s just for fun! “
