Nine days after winning the Tour du Doubs, French Groupama-FDJ rider Valentin Madouas took another win on Tuesday during the first stage of the Tour du Luxembourg.

Located between the Vuelta, the Grand Prix of Quebec and Montreal and the world championships in Australia, the Tour du Luxembourg is struggling to attract the biggest names this year, but riders like Rafal Majka, Matteo Trentin or Giulio Ciccone have it all. the journey for this 82nd edition. And this Tuesday it was a Frenchman, Valentin Madouas, who won the first stage. Revelation of the last Tour de France (10th overall), the 26-year-old had sealed his first win of the season nine days ago at the Tour du Doubs, and didn’t wait long to take second. The Groupama-FDJ driver won alone, three seconds ahead of Sjoerd Bax and Clément Berthet.

The Groupama-FDJ plan worked

A group of six runners (none French) formed the breakaway of the day, and they were caught eleven kilometers from the finish. Valentin Madouas decided to try his luck 1.6 km from the finish, on the last climb, well launched by Kevin Geniets, and no one was able to follow him. So this is a memorable day for the Brest native, who also learned that he was selected for the world championships. ” The team did a great job, our plan was to tighten up the uphill race. We wanted to wait, with Kevin, for the last ascent for each of our efforts, and it paid off. It is truly a wonderful day for us. The legs are really very good. Great stages and great difficulties await us in the rain ”, confided the winner at the finish line. A stage of 163.4 km will be scheduled on Wednesday, with three climbs.
